Kendal Athletics Club Report on North West Sports Hall League Sunday 20/01/02 saw Kendal AC hosting the 3rd Sports Hall match of the season at the South Lakeland Leisure Centre, Kendal and the young athletes acquitted themselves well against strong opposition from five northwest clubs including Wirral AC & Sale Harriers. For Emily Cole it was straight in at the deep end as Kendal�s only U11 Girl athlete in her very first competition. Undaunted Emily performed very well with a time of (21.9secs) in the 2 lap race & 1.66m & 30cm in standing long jump & vertical jump respectively. The U11 Boys team consisting of Cameron Roberts, Peter Holgate, Connor O�Halloran & Matthew Wright did well finishing in 4th position. Cameron produced a fine run to win his 2 lap race(20.6 secs) whilst Peter ran well gaining valuable points in the 4 lap race (46.9 secs). In the field events Connor & Mathew�s standing long jumps of 1.85m & 1.80m respectively earned them very creditable 3rd A & 1st B placings. The U13 Girls were represented by Gemma Crowther, Adele Fletcher, Maddie Williams & Rayna Coulson & the four girls produced a good team performance to finish in 4th position. Gemma�s 6 lap race (69.8 secs) earned her 2nd A placing whilst Adele & Maddie scored valuable points with good performances in standing long jump,vertical jump & shot.Rayna�s fine efforts in the 2 lap race (19.8secs) & vertical jump (42cm) gave her 3rd A placing in both events. Joe Greenwood, Peter Rhodes, Peter Spencer & James Wright turned on an impressive display of speed & power to sweep aside the opposition & win the U13 Boys competition. James & Joe took 2nd A & 2nd B places respectively in the 4 lap race whilst Spencer & Rhodes won the 2 lap races taking 1st A & 1st B places, the boys times separated by a mere 0.1 of a second. Rhodes went on to dominate the jumps events, joining his team mates in the relay to record a comprehensive win. Equally as determined were the U15 Girls team of Fiona Burgess, Hannah Faye, Ashley Stewart & Claire & Katie Huck who finished in 2nd place. Ashley won the standing triple jump (6.44m) & claimed 3rd B place in the 2 lap race (19.7 secs) with Katie taking 2nd A (19.1 secs) in the 2 lap & 1st B place in the shot. Fiona & Hannah took 3rd A & 4th B places respectively in the 6 lap races whilst Claire turned in solid performances in shot & vertical jump. The four girls then combined to take 2nd place in an exciting relay final. The competion produced a fine afternoons sport for the appreciative & noisy audience. All the young Kendal athletes performed enthusiastically and should be proud of their achievements.
