Track and Field
Junior Track & Field: U11 to U20
The philosophy of the coaching group is to ensure that all young athletes participate in, and are coached in, a range of track and field events. Too early specialism is avoided although interest and aptitude in individual events is also supported by more `event specific` training. Specific events that are coached include: sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, discus, shot, and javelin. For the older athletes coaching is also available via well established links with the North West Athletics Youth Squad.
Competition Information:
In the summer the club competes in the Cumbria League, which is open to all junior athletes, from aged 9 upwards. All athletes in the training group are expected to compete in this league. Participation in open competitions for all age groups is also available.
Teams are selected for the Young Athletes League (U13 and above) and Northern League (U17 and above). In the winter U11 to U15 athletes can competes in the Sportshall athletics competitions. Older athletes can compete at indoor athletics meetings.
Evidence of success of our approach comes from the real team spirit in the group and success in Track and Field and Sportshall athletics each year. The club contains many talented young athletes who continue to win honours at club and county level.
Club Colours: which must be worn at competitions, are green Kendal AAC vest (available from Pete Bland Sports, Highgate, Kendal) and red or black shorts. Track spikes are also available from Pete Bland Sports.
